Three Boy Scouts from Lions-chartered Troop 733 earn Eagle Scout awardsThree boys from Troop 9733 of Forest Lake have earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offer – the Eagle Scout Award. Joel Ohman, Josh Olson and Jacob Olson were recognized in a Court of Honor Ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. Lions President Tom Waldren, liaison, Lion Harris Miller (himself an Eagle Scout) and Lion Nancy Immel par-ticipated in the recognition ceremony for the Eagle Scouts.
Each Eagle Scout must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or related service project to earn his Eagle. Ohman constructed four horseshoe courts for the Shawn Silvera Memorial Park in Columbus. Josh Olson worked with seniors at Meadows of Fairview. He planned different activities for the seniors, including a concert. Jacob Olson worked in the memory care area at Meadows in the courtyard area. He planted flowers, stained furniture and put up some birdhouses/feeder. The three candidates have served on many leadership positions in the troop. Only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts actually make the rank of Eagle Scout. Joel Ohman, Josh Olson and Jacob Olson join other outstanding American citizens who have be-come Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald Ford, Jr.; Astronaut, Neil A. Armstrong, cine-matographer Steven Spielberg, and the head of the F.B.I., William Sessions. The boys are all students at Forest Lake High School. Ohman ois a 2009 graduate. He has been accepted into the IT program at the University of Minnesota next fall. Joel Ohman is the son of Ross and Julie Ohman. Josh and Jacob Olson will be juniors next year.
